We biked 400 km across Cuba to raise funds for the transfer of redundant hospital equipment from Canada to Cuba
This Canadian volunteer based organization facilitates the transfer of used medical equipment and supplies to needy hospitals in Cuba and El Salvador.
We cycled approximately 70 km per day over 6 days for this worthwhile cause!
We experienced the real Cuba - from dirt roads to potholed highways.
We ended our ride in Placetas - and saw where previous hospital equipment installations have been made!
MEMO volunteers recently loaded this self contained clinic into a semi trailer for delivery to El Salvador.
This mobile clinic was set up in 2009 at the request of the Cuban Ministry of Health and travels to where the people are. Funds raised through this project will be used to replace the mammography machine in this mobile clinic.
Funds raised through this project will also be allocated towards the transfer and installation of pediatric surgical equipment for this hospital.
MEMO has been facilitating the upgrade of Cuban and El Salvadoran hospital equipment since 2004!
MEMO attempts to insure this equipment is properly used by sending medical/surgical/technical teams to these hospitals several times a year.
Cycling participants paid for their own trip costs and all financial support raised will go directly to support MEMO's hospital equipment transfer initiatives!
The total funds raised for the MEMO through this project $57,812.00! Awesome!
From January 25th through February 7th, 2015, twenty cyclists biked 400 km across Cuba.
We cycled to raise funds for the transfer and setup of a new mammography machine for the mobile clinic in Placetas and the rehabilitation of a childrens hospital operating room in Matanzas, Cuba.
